Tenerife, an island belong to Spain, is one of the most popular destinations in the Canary Islands and why wouldn’t it be with the amazing sunshine, water and exotic Spanish people to match. Tenerife holidays can be great value too and this is a big reason people are flocking to this stunning island, today we are going to talk about a few of the things that you can do in Tenerife.
Playa del Duque
This is one of the most amazing resorts on the whole of Tenerife and this small bay is home to one of the island’s best beaches that in many ways is reminiscent of the beaches on many of the Caribbean islands. This is a place to take in the sunshine and relax on the perfect beach, there are also a number of luxury hotels, hip cafes and luxury shopping destinations that will appeal to the most discerning traveller. Playa del Duque really needs to be seen to be believed!
Cueva del Viento
A large volcanic tube that is actually the fourth largest in the entire world at about 18km long. The tunnel itself runs beneath Icod de los Vinos and it is possible to take guided tours where you can see three levels of passages that are full of amazing geomorphic formations, such as lava pits. Fossil life is also something that you can enjoy in the cave with the remains of ancient specimens, such as the extinct giant lizard called the Gallotia Goliath.
Teide National Park
This beautiful national park in one of the highlights of Tenerife, with its 16km wide volcanic crater that rises above the island and is about 3.7km above sea level (Spain’s highest peak). This UNESCO World Heritage site gives a stunning view of the island and all of its surrounds, and you can access the peak by cable car.
Loro Parque
This is the longest established theme park on Tenerife and is an exciting experience, especially given the fact that it boasts the largest collection of parrots in the world (Loro is Spanish for parrot)! The theme of the park is much like a tropical paradise with its collections of dense palms. There are also a number of other attractions in the park such as the chimpanzees, gorillas, orcas, dolphins, various sharks and a whole host of other wildlife.
Whale watching
Whale watching is a huge drawcard of Tenerife, because of the large number of species that reside and migrate to the waters surrounding Tenerife. There are also a number of dolphins that can be seen in these waters too.
