What’s This Blog All About?
Welcome to Backpackingworldwide.com! In this blog, you will read about travel and adventure stories from around the globe.
From hiking in Pacaya (Guatemala) to the art of bargaining while backpacking in central America, you will get interesting stories as I travel around the world.
Who Am I?
My name is Carlo CK. I’m originally from Ireland but I’m currently living in Thailand. I went to college and got a degree in Pharamceutical Science back in 2001 but I’ve never used it, as working the 9 to 5 time table never really appealed to me. Being able to work from a laptop anywhere in the world is what the goal is.
After college I worked in the family business for a few years doing a few odd jobs here and there trying to find my feet. I set up a small company in 2006 which allowed me to get some experience in the running of a business side of things.
Catching The Travel Bug
Up until 2005 I’d never really been pushed about travelling. It just didn’t interest me. In September 2005 I headed out to Las Vegas for two weeks alone. Everything changed on that trip!
It was during this time in Vegas that things suddenly changed in my mind. I got to see a different side of the world in a new light. The feeling of freedom being out there alone was overwhelming. I knew I wanted more.
When I got home, I knew I had to travel more. Everything I did was geared towards throwing on the backpack on heading away. From volunteering independently in East Africa, Interrailing around Europe, to roughing it around S.E Asia – I was hell bent on travelling more and more.
Where I’m At Today
So with all this travelling came the burning desire to work and travel anywhere in the world. Ever since my last extended trip to South East Asia in 2011, I’ve been planning the big escape.
The goal was to build up a small online business that could sustain a travel lifestyle. Thankfully this dream has come a reality and I’m currently based in Thailand where I’m continuing to work on my online business as well as dabbling into a few other projects.
I’m a firm believer that you have to live life on your own terms and not on someone else’s. Be the hammer and not the nail when it comes to your happiness. Do what right’s for you. Becoming location independent has long been a goal of mine and thankfully it’s now become a reality.
With a dream, a plan and hard work you can attain those ambitions yourself.
