The city of Harrogate in Yorkshire is a top UK destination. Rich in history and with fantastic modern additions, it is easy to see why this Yorkshire gem is always top of the list for weekend getaways.
I have been lucky enough to visit Harrogate over 5 times in the last decade, each time I go back I fall more in love with the place. There’s something there for every type of holiday; family, couples, friends and backpackers. Our last family trip there was absolutely fantastic, this time we chose to opt for a private rental which was great – self catering Harrogate is a really good idea if you’re travelling with a large group because it gives you privacy, freedom and allows the kids to be kids without bothering other guests.
For many people, the idea of staying in a top hotel is exactly what they’re looking for when on a holiday. Harrogate is blessed with lots of top hotels to choose from. I’ve put together a list of the top five for you to check out before you make your booking.
Harrogate Barn
This has a score of 10/10 on most booking sites which is incredible! It offers everything a traveller needs (wifi, tv etc) and is in a great location. You will be able to reach the Turkish Baths and Royal Hall Theatre easily because they are just 5 kilometres away.
The Penthouse
This hotel is all about location, location, location. The Turkish Baths, Royal Theatre and Harrogate International Centre are all within a 500-metre radius which means you can stroll there in a matter of minutes.
Cold Cotes Guest House
This is one of my favourites and one of the top-ranked places by fellow travellers. It offers very affordable rates, but for me, the main reason for staying here is to enjoy the breathtaking views from the garden. It’s a little outside of the main city but that’s not a problem because they provide free private parking on site.
Valley Park Studios
I know I said this list was going to be full of hotels but I had to squeeze one self-catering option in there! That’s because the Valley Park Studios are absolutely fantastic. They are just a stone’s throw away from the centre of the city, but still located in a very quiet area. All of the studios are super modern and come with free wifi. If you want a bit of privacy and to go to your own place then this is the place for you and your group.
Hazel Manor
Harrogate is steeped in history, so why not stay in a beautiful building built way back in 1857. As soon as you drive into Hazel Manor and see the leafy grounds you feel happy you booked it. It’s in a town called Killinghall which is just 5 minutes away from the city centre of Harrogate. It’s rated 9.9/10 on most booking sites which is an exceptional score to get from travellers. A top pick!
