Everything you need to know about inline skating
The sport of inline skating is still young but it is rapidly growing and developing. More and more people are taking up inline skating, it is not only fun but also brilliant to keep you healthy and active.
Inline skating comes in many different forms these days; inline street skating, inline figure dancing, inline speed skating and inline ramp skating. Now that there are so many choices out there it can often be wuite confusing about where you should start, so I’ve taken the opportunity to put down some of the different options out there for those of you that are new to inline skating.
Equip yourself correctly
The first thing you need to do before you put your skates on is to make sure you’re wearing the right gear. It’s important that you are wearing the right things because it will make sure you a safe and sound. Here’s what you need to buy; a helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads and suitable skate clothing. If you go to the right shop you will be able to find everything you need – I always use Locoskates because they always have the best options available!
Get fitted properly
The skates are extremely important to getting of to a good start. The skates that you choose to wear should fit perfectly, the most important thing is that you do not wear skates that are too big for you. Always go for quality rather than getting the best bargain you can find. All different kinds of inline skating have specific skates, but as a beginner it is best to choose multi-purpose skates because they will do everything you need. Don’t jump the gun and buy the first pair you try on, take your time when picking the pair you want.
Where are you going to learn?
A good place to ask people where to start skating is in your local store or even friends that you know skate already. These people will have plenty experience and know exactly where beginners should first put on their skates. They will also let you know where you shouldn’t skate, some places aren’t ok with skating and there are laws against it, you don’t want to get in trouble on your first day! Here are the best choices; special skate parks, non-designated areas in your local park, unused car parks, sea front esplanades (come to Brighton for a great open, long skate-friendly space) and most of all somewhere that you can stretch your legs!
