Campervans have gained an iconic status as of late, and many people are now putting them to great use at events such as festivals. But how do you make sure you get the best out of your campervan when you’re on holiday? Comfort Insurance, an award winning motorhome insurance provider with over 20 years in the industry looks into getting the best out of your campervan holiday.
Be prepared
Campervans have limited space, so you won’t be able to take the kitchen sink! But with some careful planning, you can actually have everything you need. Sit down and make a list, and carefully read over it, taking out things which you deemed ‘necessary’, but in actual fact you could live without for a week or two. Make sure you check, or have the vehicle checked over carefully, and make sure you know what is covered by your campervan insurance – you don’t want to be caught out.
To make the most of the space you have, bring bags which can fit in small spaces: rigid suitcases are a bad idea, because they will always take up that amount of room, whereas a rucksack will fold down smaller when not in use.
Pick your spot
The great thing about a campervan is that it doesn’t really matter where you go. You don’t need to travel very far to have a lovely trip, but equally, you can access remoter places than you might when you were staying in a hotel. Plan your trip with all the family, making sure you know what each member wants out of the stay, and find somewhere which fits appropriately. Is there a specific facility than someone wants, or a place that someone has always wanted to visit? With more and more sites popping up all over the country and the world in general, it pays to do some research to make sure you are getting what you want from your holiday.
If you are planning to go to France, for example, you may be able to park up on a farm for just a small initial fee, if you don’t mind having fewer facilities than a campsite offers. A scheme called France Passion gives you access to 6000 farms and vineyards in the country where you can camp for free, providing you have a copy of the guidebook.
Take the opportunity to see somewhere new and enjoy the outdoors – after all, what can be better than hitting the open road with everything you need packed with you?
