If you’re soon to be travelling to Barcelona, you’re probably very excited. However, if you’re anything like me, you won’t let that stop you from doing your research. Researching a place before you travel there is always the best thing to do, so you know the do’s and don’ts of the place as well as how to make your trip extra special. This guide will talk you through 8 important travel tips for Barcelona, so you can have the best time:
1. Watch Out for Pickpockets
Please be aware that although Barcelona is a wonderful place, it has its fair share of pickpockets. You may come into contact with these mostly when getting the train from the airport to Barcelona Sants Station. You’ll have everything valuable on you at this point so make sure you know who is around you and what they are doing. Don’t let anybody push you or try to rush you as they are probably distracting you.
2. Be Careful of Overcharging Taxis
Before getting in a taxi make sure you get a quote to wherever it is you’re going. It also helps if you know the short route, so they don’t take you the long way round. This can happen anywhere you go. Occasionally drivers will try their look and try to charge you double what you should be paying.
3. Homeless People
Homeless people are dotted around the city, but they usually mean no harm. They just mill around until it’s time for them to curl up somewhere unusual again. You may want to keep small change with you to give them, but make sure you keep your notes safe and don’t pull those out.
4. Find Out When Attractions Are Open
You must do your research on the attractions you wish to see before you travel. This is because you could end up bitterly disappointed. Some attractions will be closed at certain times, some will be under construction, and some will only be open in particular seasons.
5. Book a Nice Apartment Beforehand
I wouldn’t go to Barcelona with the intention of getting a place to stay over there. This is because you may not have much choice once you arrive, and end up in a place you’d rather not be. Plus, if you book in advance, you can get some great deals. Check deals here if you want to get an idea now.
6. Hiring a Car
It’s up to you if you want to hire a car in Barcelona. Bear in mind traffic jams can get pretty bad, so you might be better off walking or taking public transport.
7. The Beer is Expensive
If you wanted to have a good drink in Barcelona, remember that the beer is fairly expensive. I’d take more than you think you need for beer tokens, just in case.
8. Fake Products
Street vendors sell some questionable things. For example, you might spot your favourite designer brand among their wares. These will either be fake or stolen, so bear that in mind before you pull your wallet out.
