Top Ten Tuesdays – Things to Do in London

This week’s “Top Ten Tuesdays” post is a guest post by Leon Levy and is on the beautiful city of London. This city is close to my heart, even though I’ve never even been there. In fact, I’ve never even set foot on the continent. Later this week, however, I’ll be flying to Spain, where I’ll spend a month backpacking around, before journeying to London. I’ll spend between two and three months living in the city, making this post extremely […]

Europe Itinerary Part 1 (Spain and Portugal)

Two weeks from today, my girlfriend Danielle and I will be preparing to board our red eye flight from Miami, Florida to Madrid, Spain for the start of what could potentially be a 3 1/2 to 4 month trip. The initial plan right now is to spend the first month in Spain and Portugal before heading north (more on this later in the post) for the remainder of the trip. So, with two weeks left before our departure I thought […]

Top Ten Tuesdays – Things to Do in Namibia

The following is a guest post. Welcome to this week’s “Top Ten Tuesdays” post. Today we are being treated to a list of the top ten things to do in the African country of Namibia thanks to Kirk Shackleton. Enjoy! Namibia is Southern Africa’s only country beginning with N. Fact. Top Ten Tuesdays – Things to Do in Istanbul

The following is a guest post. The next guest post in my “Top Ten Tuesdays” is about the beautiful city of Istanbul, Turkey. My guest writer, Kirk Shackelton, had the pleasure of visiting from London, and as you can see below, he truly enjoyed his stay. A giddy excitement overcame me as I sat on the short flight that had left London three hours earlier, heading towards a place that had long been the object of my travelling desires. My […]

Top Ten Tuesdays – Things to Do in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is a wonderful country, characterised by stunning natural beauty, an incredible diversity of wildlife and warm, welcoming people. Although the country has experienced its fair share of problems over the last few years, these are domestic issues and don’t generally affect outsiders.

Top Ten Tuesdays – Things to Do in Prague

The following is a guest post. This week is the inaugural post of my new series, “Top Ten Tuesdays“. This series will be done entirely by guest posts on an invite only basis as I mentioned in my most recent post. Hopefully I’ll be able to put one of these up every single week, especially while I am not traveling, and then once returning to traveling I’ll decide how much I like them and whether or not to keep them […]

Back to Business

I’ve been home for just over a month since my trip to Central America, and I’ve got exactly two months until my girlfriend and I leave for our three to four month trip to Europe. I’ve decided I’ve had enough of a break from the blog and am going to get back to regular posting this week. There are going to be a few changes to the blog so I’ll break down what you can expect over the next couple […]

Different Ideas for Casino Vacations

The rise of online casino sites has meant that casino games have been embraced by a wider section of the populace than ever before, which in turn means that more and more people are looking to take casino vacations. When it comes to possible destinations for this kind of trip, Las Vegas remains the single most popular one, and there is plenty to recommend it – as there are plenty of casinos available throughout the resort, many of which are […]

11 Facts About Nicaragua

After each country I visit I post an informative article on different interesting facts that I learned will traveling through that country or that I found online while researching the country. It is a little bit overdue, but here is my next post in the “Interesting Facts…” series for the country of Nicaragua. Nicaragua was one of my favorite stops on my last trip, meaning I didn’t get to take advantage of any Costa Rica vacations because I spent so […]

Vacation from Vacation

I’ve been home in Orlando for just under two weeks, and pretty much since the moment I landed I’ve been enjoying seeing family, friends, and my girlfriend. I’ve been visiting all of my favorite hang outs, bars and restaurants and catching up on everything I missed out on. As much as I love traveling it is nice to come home and be guaranteed a hot shower! I also decided to take a short break from the blog because I was […]

Photo – Volcan Conception on Ometepe Island

Volcan Concepcion is one of two volcanoes that form the island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua. This photo shows you a view from Concepcion’s sister volcano, Maderas. Here you can see a majority of the island of Ometepe as well as Lake Nicaragua on each side of the island. Ometepe is an absolutely beautiful place with both an active and dormant volcano, provided the dry desert like ground on Concepcion, and the lush rain forest habitat of Maderas. The combination […]

Almost Getting There…

Public transportation (or sometimes the lack of it) is a huge part of traveling through Central America. Unless you are wiling to spend the extra money for private transport throughout your trip at one point in time you will find yourself cursing all things with motors for some reason…. But, as the saying goes, “Getting there is half the adventure” and, as I found out earlier this week, sometimes it is the whole adventure. I’ve spent this entire week on […]

Photos from the Islands of Granada

As mentioned in my last post, Granada, Nicaragua sits on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. To the south of Granada is Volcan de Mombacho which is an active volcano, but it has not erupted since the 1500’s. Just east of Granada, in Lake Nicaragua, lies a cluster of 365 small islands that were the result of an eruption of Mombacho thousands of years ago. The eruption sent a huge portion of the side of the volcano flying into the lake […]

Photo – Granada Skyline

I’ve been in the Spanish colonial city of Granada, Nicaragua for the past few days. Granada is the oldest Spanish founded city in Central America and was founded in 1524. The beautiful Spanish architecture is further accented by the city’s proximity to Lake Nicaragua, which is the largest lake in all of Central America, and the second largest lake in all of Latin America behind Lake Titicaca of Peru and Bolivia. The picture above was taken from a very popular […]

Video: Volcano Boarding at Cerro Negro

A guy I had met through Couchsurfing.com told me he planned to rent a truck and take some of his neighbors to Cerro Negro. He has been living here in Leon for four or five months, and many of the kids in his neighborhood, who have been living here their entire lives, had never gotten a chance to go volcano boarding because it was too expensive. I had already been last weekend during my full moon volcano hike, but it […]

UNESCO World Heritage Site #6 – Leon Viejo

Leon Viejo is my 6th UNESCO World Heritage Site visited since the start of this website. It is also the only UNESCO site in all of Nicaragua (which is crazy to me with Granada, the oldest colonial city in Central America located just to the south). Leon Viejo was one of the first Spanish settlements in the new world, and it did not develop much past the initial settlement stages leaving behind a storied past of the Spanish encounters with […]

Full Moon Volcano Hike – 22 Kilometers on No Sleep

At 9pm my two friends and I arrived at the office of the Volcano Trekking Company. We had signed up for a Full Moon Volcano Hike that would take us up portions of three different volcanoes, and would allow us to watch the sunrise over a fourth volcano. As usual, I hadn’t really done too much research beyond the casual “So is this hike pretty cool? Can I get some cool photos? Yeah? Ok, I’m in.” As the group of […]

Photo – Waterfall near Esteli

Just outside of the city of Esteli, Nicaragua lies this 36 meter waterfall in an area known as Salto. There is public transport to the area as well as a 5km hiking trail. The waterfall itself is pretty impressive but the pool and cliffs created by the fall is what really makes this a great place to visit. There were people picnicking but my friends and I had the fall to ourselves for most of our visit. It also looked […]

Hitchhiking on a Horse to Visit a Hermit

click photos to enlarge There was only one more bus going up the mountain for the day. It wouldn’t be returning in time for me to catch my 3 pm bus out of town. I had two options; miss one of the most talked about “attractions” of Esteli, Nicaragua, or attempt to find some other way to get up the mountain. I chose the latter, and at 10 am, merely five hours before my bus, I began my trip to […]

Photos – Swimming Through Somoto Canyon

During my time in Esteli, Nicaragua I took a day trip to the town of Somoto, which is known for it’s famous six-kilometer canyon. Tourists and locals alike can take trips down the canyon where you must hike and swim (with a life vest) to make it through. Here are a few shots from my trek through Somoto Canyon, and, as always, you can click the photos to enlarge them. Many parts of the canyon only require you to wade […]

11 Facts About El Salvador

A couple of days ago I left the beautiful country of El Salvador, so I wanted to publish another edition of “Interesting Facts…” El Salvador is one of the most interesting countries I have visited. Part of the reason I’ve found it so intriguing is because of all the misconceptions about the country, and then the other part is that I’ve been able to stay with many locals (via couchsurfing) and learn more about El Salvador than I’ve been able […]

The Super Bowl in Spanish

I’m currently in the small town of Alegria, El Salvador. It is my last stop in El Salvador before heading to Nicaragua and it’s famous for its nearby thermal lagoon (pictured above) and the fact that it is the highest city in El Salvador. It is, however, not famous for its sports bars, or should I say sports bar. To be totally honest, when I arrived in Alegria my first thought was that I was going to be doing quite […]
