What To Do In Austria

schnitzel

It’s always good to visit Austria and sometimes it doesn’t get the love that it deserves, especially because I think it is one of the best countries that I have ever been to in my life. I thought that because of this I should write a little about what makes it special to me, so read on to find out more.

Skiing

This is one of the best things to do in Austria, because it has some of the best skiing in all of Europe. Ski holidays in Austria are absolutely perfect and people flock from all over the world in order visit this highly sought after skiing destination. I love to visit Austria for skiing alone and there are many places to suit all kinds of skiiers, such as Saalbach, Alpbach or St Anton to name a few.

The food

Austria has a long history and a great food culture to go with this. The country has a lot of different influences over its national cuisine and these are German, Hungarian, Balkan and even Italian. The Wiener Schnitzel is of course world famous, but you absolutely need to try one in Austria. There are so many amazing sweets to try too and these go great with a coffee, which Austrians are also very famous for. I would highly recommend Apfelstrudel or a Schaumrolle, especially if you are in Vienna.

The cities

Many people have heard of Vienna, but this is not all that Austria has to offer in terms of its cities. Vienna is one great example of how a city can influence everything that you think about a country, the good news is that Vienna is one of many great cities in Austria. Graz, for example, is the relaxed younger brother to Vienna. It truly is a beautiful place with Renaissance architecture, green parks dotted throughout the city and the ever gushing “Mur” that runs throughout the centre of the city. The city is best viewed from the Schlossberg and is like a timewarp, the city has just been so well preserved. Other great cities to visit are Salzburg, Vienna, Graz and Innsbruck.

Hiking

Skiing is not always possible, especially in the summer months, but this is the perfect opportunity to get into the mountains anyway and go for a hike. This is one of my favourite things to do in Austria and is especially beautiful in the mountains when the sun is shining.
