San Sebastion Panoramic

San Sebastian Panoramic – The Most Beautiful City in Spain?

From one beautiful city to the next, we traveled from Barcelona to the northern city of San Sebastian, or Donostia, as it is known in the native Basque Country language of Euskara. This has probably been our favorite city of our entire trip so far. Maybe second favorite behind Barcelona. There are a hundred different amazing things about this city, but looking back at this panoramic shot it is easy to say that this view, and the beauty of this […]

Volcan Concepcion

Photo – Volcan Conception on Ometepe Island

Volcan Concepcion is one of two volcanoes that form the island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua. This photo shows you a view from Concepcion’s sister volcano, Maderas. Here you can see a majority of the island of Ometepe as well as Lake Nicaragua on each side of the island. Ometepe is an absolutely beautiful place with both an active and dormant volcano, provided the dry desert like ground on Concepcion, and the lush rain forest habitat of Maderas. The combination […]

Granada Skyline

Photo – Granada Skyline

I’ve been in the Spanish colonial city of Granada, Nicaragua for the past few days. Granada is the oldest Spanish founded city in Central America and was founded in 1524. The beautiful Spanish architecture is further accented by the city’s proximity to Lake Nicaragua, which is the largest lake in all of Central America, and the second largest lake in all of Latin America behind Lake Titicaca of Peru and Bolivia. The picture above was taken from a very popular […]

Esteli Waterfall

Photo – Waterfall near Esteli

Just outside of the city of Esteli, Nicaragua lies this 36 meter waterfall in an area known as Salto. There is public transport to the area as well as a 5km hiking trail. The waterfall itself is pretty impressive but the pool and cliffs created by the fall is what really makes this a great place to visit. There were people picnicking but my friends and I had the fall to ourselves for most of our visit. It also looked […]

La Libertad Fishing Pier

Photo: Fishing Pier at Midday

click photo to enlarge I’ve been in La Libertad, El Salvador the past 4 days. I moved here mainly for the solid internet connection as I had to hunker down and get some work down for my friend (I work for his online company). I have definitely enjoyed myself though, and have been able to go out and snag a few photos of the area as well as lay around in the sun quite a bit. La Libertad is a […]

Los Cobanos, El Salvador

Photo – A Little Piece of Paradise

click photo to enlargeI’ve been couchsurfing my entire stay so far in El Salvador, and the first thing I did with my second host was visit the remote beach of Los Cobanos. We were barely there for 18 hours but we had enough time to drink a few beers on the beach during the full moon and then wake up and take a morning swim before we had to leave. The area of this beach is so secluded that the […]

Lavame (Wash Me)

Volcan de Fuego Erupting

Photo: Volcan de Fuego Erupting!

click photo to enlarge Yesterday morning while leaving Antigua for the beachside town of Monetricco, Daniel and I were treated to an awesome sight. The active Volcan de Fuego (Volcano of Fire) was erupting and spewing smoke and ash into the sky. The driver of our shuttle stopped for everyone to get a good look and I jumped out to take this quick shot. The driver had pulled over behind some trees so I had to run down the road […]

Children Bathing in Lake Atitlan

Featured Travel Photo – Children Bathing in Lake Atitlan

Children play and bath in Lake Atitlan in the highlands of Guatemala. This was a daily sight as the locals used the lake for bathing on what seemed to be a regular basis.

Catedral de Santiago

The Catedral de Santiago is lit up each night creating an awe inspiring view from the central park square in Antigua, Guatemala. The church is one of two churches on the square, and one of 20 or so churches throughout the small city.

Featured Travel Photo: Ziplining Through The Clouds

While in the Guatemalan highlands my friends and I got a chance to do some zip-lining just outside of the town of Santa Clara La Laguna on Lake Atitlan. Our first ride was through clear skies with a great view of the surrounding mountainsides but our second ride was right through the middle of a dense white cloud. A very cool and surreal experience.

Traffic Cops in Antigua

Featured Travel Photo: Traffic Cops in Antigua

There were few stop signs in Antigua, Guatemala and the ones that were there seemed to be more of a suggestion than a requirement. On busier intersections, however, you could find one or more of these traffic cops. Doesn’t hurt that these two just so happened to have a stunning volcano behind them.

Featured Travel Photo: Mayan Statue “The Old Man’s Head”

While backpacking through the town of Copan Ruinas, Honduras I took a trip to the Mayan ruins about a kilometer outside of town. The park didn’t have the giant temples of Tikal but the detail and sophistication of their artwork was stunning. This head was originally part of a much larger structure and if I remember correctly this was the head of one of two old men who were holding up a much more important figure.
