Best places to stay when travelling at this summer’s European Championship

This summer, France will host the European Championship and hundreds of thousands of supporters from all over the continent will travel across the country to follow their side. The competition is set to be huge and plenty of punters will be visiting online betting sites, such as Betway, to patriotically back their nation for victory.

With ten host cities, plenty of fans will get their fair share of travelling in throughout the tournament, especially those who support their nation all the way to the final. We take a look at some of the best French cities to visit whilst travelling during the competition this summer.

Paris

The obvious choice, Paris is fairly central and has incredible transport links across the country. The French capital is a truly beautiful city and there are plenty of hotels, restaurants and bars to keep you entertained, as well as cultural landmarks and attractions including the Eiffel Tower and the world famous Louvre Museum.

With France featuring in the opener and the Stade de France hosting the final of the tournament, it’s the perfect place to set up camp for the entire competition. After all, transport is fairly cheap out there – especially compared to English rail and bus prices.

Lille

If you’re an England or Wales fan, Lille is the place to be. In the group stages, Roy Hodgson’s men will face Wales in Lens and plenty of supporters will be travelling over to France for that game. In fact, it’s already extremely popular with most bookmakers and Betway, one of the betting sites to try out in 2016, are currently offering 8/11 for an England win.

Lens will be extremely busy and many will want to stay a little out of the area in order to guarantee a quieter and more relaxing experience. Lille is a stereotypical French city and there are numerous hotels within walking distance of the train station. In terms of location, it’s almost perfect for anyone attending a game in the north of France.

Bordeaux

By the same token, Bordeaux is an excellent spot to set up in if your games are in the south of France. It’s not quite on the coast but isn’t too far away if you want to go and relax on the beach whilst Lyon, Marseille and Toulouse are within reasonable distance of the city.

Bordeaux will host a number of games featuring major sides, including the top ranked side in the world Belgium and current defending champions Spain. There will certainly be a lot of talent on the field but there is also lots to do whilst you wait for the next football match to start. After all, Bordeaux is renowned for being one of France’s most delightful locations and the surrounding region is beautiful too. It’s well worth a visit!
