About Me
My name is Matt Hope and I travel the world and write about it.  I am taking time off before starting Law School to backpack to destinations around the world. Over the next two or so years I hope to visit all of the places I’ve ever dreamt of visiting plus many more I might not have even heard of. Check out where I’ve been so far here.

I am originally from Ocala, Florida U.S.A. but now live in Orlando, Florida (yes, where Disney World is…).  At the age of 15 I made a decision that would ultimately lead me to my point in life today.  I joined a band, because I, like most 15 year old boys, wanted to be a rock star.  Well here I am, 8 years later, fresh out of college, with a few half completed law school applications on hold, and an urge to see the world.

So how do these two moments in my life relate?  After a few years of hard work the band I was in was actually able to sign a small record deal.  It wasn’t much, but it did enable us to tour throughout a vast majority of the United States.  During this time I fell in love with travel.  I fell in love with the freedom and excitement of travel, the knowledge that you don’t know what lies around the very next turn, the reality that everyday it was guaranteed that I would be meeting someone new, someone with their own story to share.

I made my way through my undergraduate studies earning a degree in Marketing from the University of Central Florida and soon made plans to pursue my dream of working in the music industry by applying to and attending law school to hopefully one day become an entertainment lawyer.  And then it snuck back up on me…  That want to see everything I could possibly see in the world, from the small towns just down the road from where I grew up to the far corners of the world.

I decided it was time to put law school on the back burner; I have my whole life to accomplish that.  Instead, I made a plan to take advantage of a unique opportunity I had been given.  The opportunity lies in the job I currently hold.  This job allows me multiple months of travel time a year (not work related travel either!) and the possibility to even be relocated overseas.  I decided this was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I had to take advantage of. So, here I am today writing the “About” section of my website, just a few short days away from the beginning of a new chapter of my life.  I have never blogged, never owned a camera, never owned a video camera, and never traveled by myself. I hope the experiences I have during my travels prove to be both entertaining and useful to everyone who chooses to keep up with this site.  If I’m traveling through your area and you’d like to meet me or give me advice for things to experience in your area feel free to let me know.
